The night your character gets duller

You're deep in a scene. It's going well. She's holding the thread, picking up things you said an hour ago.

Then the replies get shorter. Flatter.

Then you start to wonder, because you didn't even change anything. It’s the same character, same description, and same way of writing. You went back and checked her setup twice. And somewhere in there you started to think you'd imagined how good she was.

You didn't.

But now that you ran out of credits, three things happen at once: CrushOn moves you onto its free model, her reply generation slows down, and you get a banner encouraging you to upgrade.

There's no credit counter in the chat window. To see how close you were, you'd have had to leave the conversation and open your profile.

This CrushOn AI review tells you what a reply costs, what happens when they run out, and whether paying more fixes any of it.

What is CrushOn AI?

CrushOn AI is a character marketplace. Other users build the characters, including their backgrounds and interests. From there, a user can simply choose what they prefer and chat with the AI character from there.

It launched in 2023 as the unfiltered Character.AI alternative, and it stayed there. You have around 100 tags to browse, and about half of them are marked Unfiltered.

The library is the best thing about it. One creator, Grinslaffin, has 245.3M chats and 91.2K followers. A single mid-range character we opened had 137.8K messages against it. That's a real community, and most rivals don't have one.

The second good thing is that CrushOn lets you pick your AI.

Most companion sites run one AI behind every character and never tell you which. CrushOn gives you a menu. Claude, GPT-5, Gemini, Deepseek, Kimi, and a few CrushOn built itself. Each one writes differently, and you can swap in the middle of a conversation.

That menu is also where your money goes.

Two things surprised us. The feature called Memories isn't memory; it's a place to save a scene and load someone else's into your own chat. And the AI you drop to when your credits run out, Crushon Leo, is scored 2.62 out of 5 by CrushOn's own users.

There's also no app called CrushOn. The App Store button on their site opens an app called Crushmash. The Google Play button opens one called JollyChatter.

How much does CrushOn AI cost?

CrushOn AI pricing runs from free to $199.99 a month. Here's what you get without paying, and what the paid tiers add.

The free tier

You can use CrushOn AI with no subscription at all. You get 100 credits a month, and no card to get started.

The free plan also gives you her shortest replies. Paid plans let her write nearly three times as much, and the top plans let you set the length yourself.

You miss a week, and your history is gone. Your conversation will be deleted after 7 days without a login.

You can also earn coins by checking in each day and swap them for credits in the store.

The paid tiers

There's one more thing to buy that isn't in the table. For $39.99 a month, the Chat Package lets you talk without spending credits. But it only covers the middle set of AIs, not the best ones. And you still have to pay for a plan as well.

That's the CrushOn AI free vs paid question in one line: how many replies you get, and from which AI.

How far 2,000 credits actually go

Every AI charges a different number of credits per reply. The number goes up if you give her more memory.

Memory here means how much of your conversation she can hold at once. By CrushOn's own numbers, the smallest setting holds about 6,000 words of chat, while the biggest holds four times that.

You can only see any of these prices by starting a chat and opening the AI menu. They are not on the pricing page.

What $5.99 actually buys

We burned a free account to zero. Our 100 credits lasted 50 messages. That was one evening.

Standard costs $5.99 and gives you 2,000 credits. What that buys depends entirely on which AI you pick:

• Kimi K2, smallest memory: 500 messages
• Claude Sonnet 4.6, middle memory: 105 messages
• Claude Opus 4.6, middle memory: 57 messages
• Claude Opus 5, biggest memory: 25 messages

You get 25 messages with a Standard subscription using Claude Opus 5. That's half of what we got through in one sitting, and it's your whole month.

Premium at $14.99 takes Opus 5 to 75 messages. Luxe at $39.99 takes it to 250. You'd have to reach Imperial, at $199.99 a month, before it stops running out on you.

Paying more won't make her smarter

You've hovered over that upgrade button. The thinking goes like this: her replies are flat because I'm on the cheap plan, so the expensive plan must be better.

It isn't.

CrushOn asks you to rate every reply out of five stars. It shows the average next to each AI, so you can see what everyone else thought before you pick one.

Nothing on their list scores above 3.5.

Claude Opus 5 is the most expensive AI they sell. The people using it give it 2.97. Kimi K2, one of the cheapest, gets 3.24.

The cheap one scores higher. It's also faster. Opus 5 takes about 20 seconds to write you a reply. The cheapest one comes back before you've put your phone down.

So the flatness wasn't your plan. Upgrading would have cost you more and given you the same night.

Your credits run out without warning

Your credit balance isn't in the chat window. It's on your profile page.

So you never watch it run down. You find out it's gone, halfway through a scene, from a banner you can close.

Check your profile before you start something you don't want interrupted.

What CrushOn AI users say

The complaints repeat, and almost none of them are about the writing.

Money comes up most. One previous CrushOn subscriber wrote that the coins and credits feel like a barrier bolted onto something that gives the same repetitive answers, no matter what AI model you pick. Another was annoyed you only get one chat per character, and didn't want to pay $7 just to start a second one with the same girl.

A third asked for the limit of 10 personas to be raised, because they switch personas depending on the chat.

Support comes up nearly as often. One reviewer described reporting a bug and hearing nothing back, like filing a ticket into a void. The help widget is an AI bot.

Then there's the $0.99. It's the most repeated complaint on Trustpilot, where people describe it as an age check they didn't agree to. We hit no age check signing up, but what we did find is a $0.99 Newcomer's Gift Package sitting in the store: some coins, some diamonds, and 5 free days of Standard.

Should you wish to download the app, you’ll never find it by searching “CrushOn.” For some reason, their apps are called Crushmash and JollyChatter.

Is CrushOn AI safe?

You don't need a card to start, so trying it costs you nothing.

The bigger risk is your account. CrushOn sells itself on "No Filter," but its rulebook is longer than that suggests, and breaking it can cost you your characters.

Anything non-consensual is banned outright. Scenes where a character pretends to refuse are allowed, but only if you tag them properly. The safe-word feature their policy mentions doesn't exist yet; their own wiki says it's still being built.

Uploading a picture of a real person needs that person to have 500,000 followers and to have given written permission.

None of that is unreasonable. It just isn't what "No Filter" prepares you for.

How to decide whether to pay

Every hour you spend reading CrushOn AI reviews is an hour you're not spending with her. So here's the whole decision in one step.

Open a chat and open the AI menu. Find the credit number next to the AI you want, at the memory size you want. Divide your plan's monthly credits by that number.

If the answer is more replies than you send in a month, the plan works.

If it isn't, no plan on that page is priced for how you use it. On Standard with Opus 5, the answer is 25.

So: if you're happy on the cheaper AIs, CrushOn is good value and the character library is genuinely excellent. Kimi K2 scores higher than Opus 5 anyway.

If you came for the big names, you're buying about half a night a month and the pricing page won't tell you that.

Unused credits roll over. A quiet week isn't a week you paid for and lost.

Both Ultimate plans hold 64K of your conversation. That's more than double CrushOn's biggest setting, and CrushOn's $199.99 plan doesn't reach it.

Ultimate Flex is $47.88 for the year, which works out at $3.99 a month. That's less than CrushOn's Standard plan, with 5,000 credits a month instead of 2,000.

Moreover, on CrushOn you pick a character someone else made. On Nectar AI, you make her. Over 350 settings for how she looks, then photos and video of her, generated as you talk.

There's something to that. In a 2025 study, 80 people answered personal questions from an AI. Half got plain text. Half got a face on screen that spoke to them. The ones who could see a face opened up more.

CrushOn has no video at all.
